Delete account & data

Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") under Art. 17 GDPR.

Fastest way: Open the Synapse app and go to Settings → Delete account. The process runs automatically and completes within minutes.

Alternative: Deletion by email

If you no longer have access to the app (e.g. lost device, forgotten password), send us a short email from the address you registered with:

We confirm deletion within 30 days (deadline under Art. 12 GDPR).

What gets deleted?

  • ✓ Your user account (email, username, password hash)
  • ✓ All notes, drawings and notebooks in the cloud
  • ✓ Sync data and version history
  • ✓ Login sessions and API tokens
  • ✓ Active Stripe subscriptions are cancelled

What must be retained for legal reasons?

The following data must be kept due to statutory retention obligations — but is no longer actively used:

  • ! Invoices and accounting records: 7 years (§ 132 BAO, § 212 UGB Austria)
  • ! Payment processing data at Stripe: 7 years (Stripe’s own retention)

This data is stored separately from your notes and contains no personal content — only invoice items, amounts and tax-relevant information.

Delete individual content — without deleting your account

You do not have to give up your whole account to remove data. You can delete individual notebooks, folders and pages at any time in the app.

  • ✓ In the app: press and hold a notebook, folder or page and choose “Delete” — the item moves to the trash.
  • ✓ In the trash: “Delete permanently” for a single item, or “Empty trash” for everything at once.
  • ✓ This removes the content and every file attached to it — embedded images, voice notes and PDFs — from the cloud as well.

Without that second confirmation a deleted item stays in the trash for 30 days and is then removed permanently on its own. This period protects you against deleting something by accident — if you want it gone immediately, empty the trash yourself.

Export beforehand?

If you want to back up your notes before deletion, export them directly from the Synapse app.
